New Case Study:
Hutchinson Area Health Care
HAHC was struggling to gain maximum value from a multitude of strategic, operational, quality and patient safety measurements, many of which were difficult to capture, stored in a variety of data bases and controlled by various individuals throughout the organization. The measurements were not linked or integrated and were difficult to apply to a comprehensive evaluation of corporate strategies. In addition, there was limited engagement and accountability from administrative and physician leaders due to the lack of substantive reporting or availability of current data.
The features available in Visum PerformancePath HPM (PP) were seen by HAHC as a way to integrate the strategic an operational initiatives as well as the work being done around quality and patient safety. The Board of Directors and al administrative and physician leaders now had access to organizational and service specific scorecards that were able to demonstrate areas of effectiveness as well as opportunities for improvement. Administrative and physician leaders learned quickly that PerformancePath HPM forced the development of specific, measurable objectives that were strategic in nature rather than merely statements of operational functions. In addition, the system provided an excellent management and accountability system—alerting leaders when opportunities for improvement faced organizational barriers that needed leadership involvement. HAHC’s organizational needs required using PP in a broader based and unique approach. This was accomplished through collaborative customization with Visum staff.
